Top 8 Effective ways to take care of Dental Implants

After care of Dental Implants: Once Dental Implants are placed

After Care of Dental Implants: Once you get your Dental Implants done

Dental implants in East Delhi are the latest way of replacing a missing tooth or a set of missing teeth. Dental implants in Delhi are known as the permanent solution because of their longevity. Making them last longer requires some extra care and effort on the user’s part.

If you are looking to get dental implants soon or have recently got them done, then hold on, let us give you a brief insight on how you can take care of them in a more effective way.

Why is it important to care of dental implants?

The biological difference between natural teeth and implants is the main reason behind the extra care required for success in dental implants. Dental implants are made up of titanium, which is biocompatible and does not decay.

The tissue surrounding the implants is less hard or keratinized than the tissue around natural teeth. Hence there are more chances of infection occurring around the implants due to plaque accumulation.

The plaque accumulation, if not stopped, will lead to infection of the tissue surrounding the implants called periimplantitis. This tissue inflammation will further lead to bone loss and eventually implant failure.

How to care of dental implants?

Taking care of dental implants requires some extra effort and attention on the user’s part.  We have briefly discussed the seven effective ways to care for dental implants, ensuring their longer shelf life.

1. Brush twice daily

Brushing twice daily is an essential and fundamental exercise you need to follow. The tissue surrounding the implants is more susceptible to inflammation following plaque accumulation.

Regular brushing will help you prevent plaque accumulation and further damage to the gums and surrounding bone. Use a soft nylon brush as they are gentle on care for dental implants.

2. Brushing with nonabrasive products: Best care of dental implants

Using non-abrasive products like toothpaste or mouthwash is essential for maintaining the health of implants. High abrasive content can instead damage, contrary to the notion of it being more effective.

3. Incorporate flossing and use mouthwash

Flossing and using mouthwash are adjuncts to the regular brushing exercise. Do not take them as a substitute for brushing. Dental flossing becomes even more critical when you have dental implants placed as the interproximal surfaces need to be thoroughly cleaned to control plaque accumulation effectively.

4. Get the right dental implant cleaning tools

Apart from dental floss, you might need an interdental brush to clean the areas not easily accessed by regular brushing. When selecting a toothbrush, choose a soft nylon brush for gentle cleaning.

Water flosser can also be added to your dental implant cleaning tool kit for better flossing than traditional dental floss.

5. Regularly change your toothbrush

Regularly replacing your toothbrush is also an integral part of maintaining optimum care. You should consider changing your brush every two to three months or when it begins to fray or fade in color.

 6. Visit your dentist twice a year at least

Visiting your dentist at least twice a year is necessary when dental implants are placed in your mouth. Your implant dentist will perform a thorough clinical check-up and radiographic examination to know the exact status of implant health.

7. Avoid smoking

Smoking is an important criterion that should be avoided, reducing the overall healing potential. The way the implant binds in the bone changes in the case of a chronic smoker.

8. Maintain overall general health

General health has a direct effect on your dental health. Medical conditions like diabetes can affect bone density which can impact the life of your implant.
